AI for scanned PDFs, not just digital ones

Upload a PDF to most AI tools and one of two things happens: you're told the file is unsupported because it's “just images”, or you get answers that ignore everything on the page that isn't clean, printed text. Scanned documents — exam papers, signed forms, archive files, photos of pages — are exactly where generic AI PDF tools break.

VersoDoc starts where they stop. It straightens, cleans, and restores the scan first, then reads every layer of the page:

Then you can summarize it, translate it, or ask questions — with answers grounded in what's actually on the page, handwriting included.

Why other tools miss your scans

Most PDF chat tools extract the embedded text layer of a PDF and feed that to an AI model. A scanned PDF has no text layer — it's a photograph. Some tools refuse the file outright. Others run basic OCR that recognizes print but discards handwriting as noise, so the AI answers “not in document” while the answer sits on the page in pen.

We tested this ourselves on real pages — handwritten exam papers, a marked test, a journal article, a contract, and a low-quality scan. You can read the full results in our scan test.
